You'll find Matthews homes for sale located at the southeastern border of Mecklenburg County near
Charlotte. The town is home to about 22,000 people.

The area is large enough (14 square miles) and as it blends into South Charlotte it crosses over into neighboring Union County. 

Yes, this means that Matthews real estate is located in two North Carolina counties-Union and Mecklenburg.

The two counties create confusion with the school set up, tax locations, city/water/sewer services and trash pick up.

You may buy a home in Sardis Forest only to find out you are on the Charlotte side of the street (higher taxes) and your neighbor across the way has their home on the Matthews side of the street (lower taxes).

If you purchase your Matthews home in the Brookhaven neighborhood, your mailing address is Matthews; your tax location is Indian Trail; your schools are Antioch Elementary and Weddington Middle and High School-in Union County!

You'll find that Matthews NC real estate  purchases can be a little tricky!  To those of you buying real estate in these parts-caveat emptor.


Matthews Schools


high schoolIn 1906,  Matthews became the first town in the county, to receive a public school.
 
Over a hundred years later, Matthews’ schools have continued to be one of the main draws to the area.

Today, the residents are served by  Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District and the Union County School District.

The latter district runs Weddington Elementary, Weddington Middle  and Weddington High School.

The former district runs Crown Point Elementary, Elizabeth Lane Elementary, Matthews Elementary,  Crestdale Middle  and David Butler High  and Providence High School.

New schools continue to come on board due to the areas real estate growth.

Alternatively, students can go to 1 of 3 private schools: Bible Baptist Christian School (pre-kindergarten through 12th grade), Covenant Day School (K-9) or Carmel Christian School (K-8).

Post secondary education is available at Wingate University: Metro College, a school graduate and adult education, and Central Piedmont Community College-Levine Campus.
